History

Established in 1743. The name Saucon comes from the native word Saukunk which means mouth of the creek. Originally populated by the Lenape, an indigenous people of the Northeastern Woodlands of the Unami division. Initially established as part of Bucks County by William Penn in 1682, in 1752 when the Northampton County was created, Upper Saucon was a part of this reestablishment. Finally in 1812, Lehigh County was established and with went Upper Saucon.

The village first consisted of only a general store, hotel and a 60-acre farm as the Village of Center Valley became the central gathering spot for the area. When the Center Valley Station was constructed on the east side, this exponentially help with the areas growth. The community around the station was locally known as “Milk Town” because of the large quantities of milk shipped from the area. By 1862 the township contained a store, hotel, post office, blacksmith, shoemaker, and several residential dwellings.
